Many Americans are without Health Insurance

Although you may take your health insurance coverage for granted, there are many people who are not so lucky. The fact of the matter is that there are over 46 million Americans who do not have health insurance. When you break it down this comes out to approximately one out of every six people. As you can imagine, this is a huge problem that is plaguing people in every state.

According to the Kaiser Commission, the number of unemployed residents in the United States has been rising steadily every year. Unless something is done to combat this problem it is safe to say that things are only going to get worse in the near future. Approximately 60 percent of people under the age of 65 receive their health insurance coverage from their employer. Of course, this does not mean that just because somebody does not have insurance that they are unemployed. When it comes down to it approximately 66 percent of people who are uninsured come from low income, working families. People who are not citizens make up the largest portion of people (44 percent) who do not have health insurance coverage.

The reason that so many people are going without health insurance is quite simple. Every year health insurance coverage costs increase, and to go along with this so does the price of health care. When you put these two things together it is easy to see why so many people are going without. State lawmakers are looking into ways to combat this ever growing problem. One thing is for sure. They better work quickly before the number of people without health insurance coverage gets too far out of control. With so many problems within the health insurance industry it appears that changes are on the way.
